Education

Religious Education at St. Vincent de Paul Parish takes many forms, catering to different age groups and backgrounds.  For children who are not enrolled in Catholic schools, there is CCD (the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine).  For adults seeking to enter the church, there is RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults).  For adult Catholics seeking to deepen and enliven their faith, the Adult Faith Formation Team organizes a number of bible studies and programs throughout the year.

Pastors Advisor Council

The Pastor’s Advisory Committee is a committee to the pastor for advice on the planning of parish functions, the setting of the yearly calendar, and in general the well-being of the parish.  Members are appointed by the pastor.

Finance Council

The Finance Council, as mandated by the 1983 Code of Canon Law, exists to assist the pastor in financial matters.  The council consists of the pastor and six lay parishioners.  All are appointed by the pastor.  The Finance Council helps prepare the parish operating and capital budgets.  It also appoints a subcommittee on stewardship and conducts the annual Catholic Charities Appeal.  In consultation with the pastor, the Finance Council helps develop financial policies on other parish financial matters, such as the school subsidy.

The mission of St. Vincent de Paul School is

to foster an environment that cultivates independent,

critical thinkers, who are devoted to life-long

learning and to a life of Christian action and service.

We Believe…

  • that all our children can learn in a safe, supportive and challenging environment.

  • that our Catholic faith pervades all subjects and activities.

  • that each student is a valued individual who was created in God’s image in a unique and special way.

  • that parents are the primary educators of their children and that a mutual respect among parents and teachers promotes positive student learning.

  • that a healthy self-image is developed through student participation in school, church and community.

  • that through self-discipline students should be able to respect themselves and others, contribute to learning, and follow standard procedures.

  • that a commitment to continuous improvement is required as our school enables students to become confident, self-directed learners.

WITHOUT QUESTION, ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT INVENTIONS IN HUMAN HISTORY

IS THE COMPUTER.

-ANONYMOUS

Mrs. Bolen welcomes you to our computer lab.  The computer lab is housed in the same building as the library.  There are 25 computers in the lab.  All students in PreK, K and grades 1 – 8 receive a minimum of 30 minutes of computer instruction each week.  Students also use the Lab at other times during the week to complete classroom tasks or research projects.  The internet is used for locating materials and researching topics.

STAR Reading Assessment

Each student is administered the STAR Reading Test to determine the student’s reading level and range.  The students take this test on the computer.  The test takes about ten minutes to complete and adjusts continually to each students response pattern.  If the response is correct, the difficulty level is increased.  Should the student miss a question, the difficulty level is reduced.  The STAR Reading Test is administered to each student at the beginning and the end of the year.

May God Bless You,

Cindy Bolen
